Thousands of Albanians continue to protest across the country, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and citing widespread corruption within his administration. The demonstrations, now in their 56th day, have seen confrontations with police, with reports of tear gas use and forceful escort of activists and journalists. An MEP has stated that protesters are defending EU values, while an international organization condemned threats by the Interior Minister against lawyer Gentian Sejrani for representing protesters.
Beyond the ongoing protests, domestic news also covers a range of issues including local crime, such as a double murder in Roskovec and a stabbing incident in Lushnjë. Environmental and social topics are also in focus, with concerns raised over air pollution in Tirana and Elbasan, international criticism regarding the Vjosa-Narta protected area, and proposed territorial reforms by the Socialist Party.
The current head of government is Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is also the Chairman of the Socialist Party of Albania, the ruling party. The head of state is President Bajram Begaj. The main opposition is the Democratic Party of Albania.
