Wildfires Continue to Ravage Gironde, Government Mobilizes Response

France is battling extensive wildfires in the Gironde region, where firefighters are still struggling to gain full control despite reports of a potential easing after five days of intense burning. The blazes have consumed over 42,000 hectares, leading to significant evacuations of both residents and approximately 13,000 companies, with the smoke causing pollution that has reached as far as Lyon. The University Hospital Center in Bordeaux is expanding its capacity to accommodate patients and residents evacuated from affected areas, as the fires approach the city's southwestern suburbs.
In response to the escalating crisis, the government, under Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, convened an emergency Council of Ministers. The Minister of Economy and Finance, Roland Lescure, has announced financial aid for victims and confirmed that insurance companies will cover the relocation expenses for those displaced across Gironde, Landes, and Var. Meanwhile, a separate domestic issue has emerged with a French payment specialist, CentralPay, facing allegations of overlooking dubious transactions from e-merchants involved in illicit activities.
