Moldova is facing significant challenges in its energy and hydrological sectors, prompting the government to declare a state of heightened alert. The head of Energocom has addressed a sharp increase in gas tariffs, while an official stated that the energy situation is serious, with consumers paying nearly double the purchase price for gas. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan convened an urgent government meeting to tackle the diesel fuel and natural gas supply issues, as the country also reports a diesel shortage.
Adding to the country's concerns, a hydrological alert has been issued due to drought conditions, with the Minister of Environment calling it a preventive measure. These alerts highlight potential emergencies and challenges across critical national infrastructure.
In other domestic news, a new bypass road has been completed, rerouting heavy truck traffic away from villages and directly connecting the M3 highway to the Giurgiulești port, improving infrastructure and local quality of life. Meanwhile, a man has been sentenced for attempting to bribe police in a traffic accident case, and the news outlet Agora announced it will become social media exclusive from May 14 after 12 years of independent journalism.
