The capital city and its surrounding region were hit by a devastating Russian ballistic missile attack, resulting in at least nine fatalities and over 30 injuries. The barrage caused widespread destruction and fires across multiple districts, including a critical strike on a medical ambulance fleet.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed grave concern over the attack, stating that Ukrainian air defense systems were only able to intercept one out of 27 or 35 ballistic missiles launched, attributing the low success rate to a significant deficit of Patriot air defense system missiles.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian defense forces reported tactical successes in Crimea, having struck a warehouse for naval drones, two crucial railway bridges vital for Russian logistics, and a Russian intelligence unit. Economists are also warning of a potential depreciation of the national currency, with forecasts suggesting the dollar could reach 46 hryvnia in August.
