A powerful storm has swept through the Vilnius region, leaving a trail of destruction including flooded streets, submerged cars, and uprooted trees. Emergency services are responding to widespread damage, with a viaduct inundated and a local school affected. Flights to Vilnius were also disrupted, forcing planes to circle the capital.
In other domestic news, the Minister of Justice has called for an evaluation of prison staff preparedness following an incident involving romantic relationships within a correctional facility. Meanwhile, security services are requesting an additional 350 million euros for salaries and operational expenses. Separate incidents of violence were reported, with a man shot in Joniškis district and another stabbed in Kaunas. The commemoration of Medininkai massacre victims is planned in a Vilnius square.
Economically, engaged couples are reportedly surprised by escalating wedding costs, while the company Tesonet has acquired real estate in Vilnius. Authorities are also working to identify a person who died in a fire in the Kaunas region.
