The Hungarian Parliament today elected András Baka as the new president, a move seen by some as symbolically concluding the 'National Cooperation System' (NER) that characterized the previous administration. This follows the recent termination of Tamás Sulyok's presidency.
Adding to the day's significant events, the State Treasury reported a cyberattack, with hackers allegedly accessing sensitive retirement and family support databases from a Russian server. In other parliamentary activity, lawmakers decided on the early departure of the Chief Prosecutor and passed legislation making it easier for teachers to strike.
Meanwhile, Budapest is enhancing public safety with increased police presence and a new crisis management task force. An investigation also revealed the Hungarian Football Federation has not settled state support for twelve years, and the capital city awarded a controversial contract for work in Városliget.
