Thousands of protesters from the Lika region have converged on Zagreb today for the 'Hod za Liku' (Walk for Lika) protest, bringing the ongoing waste management crisis directly to the nation's capital. Buses filled with participants arrived throughout the morning, culminating in a torchlight procession and the unfurling of a large banner in Zagreb's main square. Organizers have formally presented a list of seven demands to the government, setting specific deadlines for their fulfillment, emphasizing the widespread opposition to environmental pollution.
The protest highlights a deepening environmental scandal in Lika, which has galvanized citizens across Croatia to demand protection for their land, water, and air. The movement has also garnered support from numerous Croatian celebrities. Meanwhile, Minister Marija Vučković, the Minister for Environmental Protection and Green Transition, addressed her position amidst the demonstration, stating she is 'here'.
