Albanian lawmakers have returned to Parliament for a new session, with discussions expected on territorial reform and electoral law. The session is taking place amidst ongoing anti-government protests, now in their 101st day, with demonstrators gathering outside the parliamentary building to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Adding to the political developments, President Bajram Begaj has decreed the appointment of Klodiana Spahiu as the new Minister of Health and Social Welfare, replacing Evis Sala who resigned earlier this month. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela, has called an urgent meeting to address the salaries of magistrates.
In other significant domestic news, a violent conflict in Shkodra resulted in one death and two injuries. Albania has also taken a firm stance in international relations by denying entry to a tanker associated with sanctioned Russian oligarch Gery Timchenko.
