Assembly Session Boycotted Amidst Constitutional Court Challenge

Kosovo's political landscape is dominated by renewed efforts to constitute the Assembly, which is making its sixth attempt today. The Vetëvendosje (LVV) party, led by Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has reportedly agreed to support opposition candidates Vlora Çitaku and Kujtim Shala for Deputy Speaker positions, a move aimed at breaking the prolonged deadlock.

However, this development has been met with a strong reaction from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), which has announced a boycott of the current parliamentary session. The PDK is suspending Çitaku's candidacy and intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court for a decision on the matter, introducing a new legal challenge to the assembly's proceedings.

Meanwhile, the trials of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders, including Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi, remain a prominent domestic concern. The final indictments in these high-profile war crimes cases are pending, with a verdict anticipated around September 16th.
