President Nicușor Dan is currently engaged in crucial consultations at Cotroceni Palace with leaders of political parties to designate a new Prime Minister. This development aims to resolve the country's four-month political crisis, which has seen the government operating in a caretaker capacity since May. Major parties, including the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), and the National Liberal Party (PNL), are presenting their positions, with some, like AUR, threatening to block any administration they are not part of.
Amidst these political maneuvers, Romania faces significant financial challenges, including a risk of budget collapse impacting essential services and pensions. The judiciary also remains under scrutiny, with recent reports highlighting 'copy-paste' rulings by the Bucharest Court of Appeal and the High Court blocking a referral to the European Court of Justice concerning a special investigation section. Additionally, an investigation into Mihai Daraban, head of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce, for alleged questionable business practices is ongoing.
