In a significant development in Albania's anti-corruption efforts, Vlora Hyseni, the current Director of the State Intelligence Service (SHISH), has been placed under house arrest. She faces accusations of aiding a criminal and revealing state secrets. Simultaneously, the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) ordered searches at the residence of Ilir Proda, the former State Police chief, who later presented himself to SPAK for questioning.
These high-profile actions by SPAK underscore an intensified focus on corruption within security institutions. The investigations reportedly stem from evidence seized during earlier probes involving former advisor to the Prime Minister, Ergys Agasi.
Further corruption allegations have surfaced concerning the Vlora Airport project. Journalist Tomori has detailed claims of irregularities, stating that former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku allegedly promised Kosovan businessman Behgjet Pacolli a significant share of the airport and that Pacolli secured a substantial loan using company assets.
