Albania's Parliament convened today for a plenary session, tackling urgent interpellations and a vote on a mission in Gaza. The session unfolded amidst heightened security, with police deploying metal fences around the building as anti-government protests continued, leading to the detention of two individuals who attempted to breach police cordons. The opposition also raised concerns as Parliament proceeded with a review of Territorial Reform, reportedly disregarding public consultations.
Further revelations have emerged in the ongoing corruption investigation involving Vlora Hyseni, the former head of the State Intelligence Service (SHISH). She is under scrutiny for alleged ties and communications with businessman Ergys Agasi, who is a suspect in leaking secret information and is charged in a public procurement scandal. The opposition has demanded parliamentary accountability from Prime Minister Edi Rama regarding the situation, while former SHISH head Fatos Klosi commented that Hyseni does not represent the institution.
Separately, new details have surfaced concerning a murder in Tirana from yesterday, where the accused, Toni Nake, stated he retrieved a knife after persistent bullying. The victim, a 49-year-old man, died in the hospital after being stabbed.
