Prosecutors filed formal charges in the 'twins case', an investigation into the exploitation of state subsidies. The accused include the twins' mother, the clinical director of Santa Maria hospital, Lacerda Sales and Nuno Rebelo de Sousa. His father, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, observed that no one is above the law and added that he has not spoken to his son in three years.
The Public Prosecutor's Office issued a new directive on domestic violence, calling for electronic surveillance within 24 hours of a request. Separately, health data showed 18,239 voluntary abortions in 2025, with foreign women accounting for more than 44% of the procedures.
The government forecasts a budget surplus of between 0.1% and 0.2% for 2027, leaving minimal room for new public support measures. Elsewhere, ministers resumed negotiations with the PSP and GNR security forces under pressure from protesting officers.
