Internal political tensions are escalating within the Democratic Rally (DISY) party, as Averof Neofytou, a Member of the House of Representatives, continues to insist on his 2028 presidential candidacy, a reversal from previous reports of abandonment. This has led to fragmentation within DISY, with George Pamporidis questioning internal party processes and Yiannis Karousos, President of the Famagusta Regional Development Authority, stating that Neofytou feels betrayed. Sofokleous has warned that the party is on the verge of catastrophe.
In other significant domestic news, Finance Minister Makis Kerauros has unveiled new government measures to combat inflation, projected to cost 70 million euros. Public health concerns are also rising after a second bird flu case was confirmed in Nicosia, resulting in the death of a goose.
Furthermore, authorities discovered a powerful bomb outside a business in Limassol and, in a separate operation, seized 27.5 kilograms of ketamine.
