A dispute over sanctions against the businessman Oleg Ossinovski has reached the heart of the capital, with questions raised over whether political rivals in Tallinn may have orchestrated the restrictions. The row is now coloring diplomatic relations with Ukraine, where Mr Ossinovski's Skinest Group is a major player in the railway sector.

The Centre Party has bolstered its parliamentary list with the addition of Leo Kunnas and Meelis Kiili. Mr Kiili noted that they are joining as experts rather than party members for the upcoming state elections.

Elsewhere, the Ministry of the Interior has released mortality records for 1.7 million Estonians spanning a century. While the data offers a vast historical record, tens of thousands of living citizens are more concerned with the present: a looming deadline to repay state funds.
