Aartsen introduces law to define the freelancer

Minister of Work and Participation Thierry Aartsen has introduced a bill intended to finally distinguish a genuine freelancer from an employee in disguise. The government is also moving to bring real estate agents under state supervision through a mandatory register and a complaints desk, ending the current system where the industry largely polices itself.
The social affairs ministry is beginning a restitution operation for 52,000 people who may have been wrongly denied benefits. Elsewhere, banks are forecasting that house prices will continue to rise despite higher mortgage rates, while grid operators report they cannot find enough land to build the electricity substations needed to support the transition to green energy.
Riot police were deployed to Rhenen after a vote on asylum seeker reception ended with fireworks being thrown at the town hall. The public is also mourning Paulien Cornelisse, the writer and observer of the Dutch language, who has died at 50.
