Prime Minister Petteri Orpo met with security officials to review observations related to the safety of members of parliament, an issue he said the government takes seriously as a matter of democratic integrity. The meeting follows reports of possible infiltration and a separate warning from the Cybersecurity Center regarding critical software vulnerabilities that have already led to data breaches at several organizations.
Social Security Minister Sanni Grahn-Laasonen defended a series of historically large cuts to the welfare state, arguing that the National Coalition Party must prioritize fiscal savings over the habit of pleasing voters.
The domestic news day was otherwise marked by a series of tragedies. A two-year-old child drowned in a water barrel in Oulu, a young man died in a cottage fire in Tampere, and a stabbing was reported at Helsinki Central Railway Station. Separately, a court issued its ruling on biathlete Arttu Heikkinen, who shot his godfather.
