In a significant legal development, electronic monitoring has been removed for Saulius Skvernelis, a Member of the Seimas and leader of the Union of Democrats "For Lithuania". His legal case, however, remains ongoing. Ričardas Malinauskas, chief advisor to the director of the municipal administration in Druskininkai, has offered a prognosis on the progression of the case.
On the economic front, the long-standing Alytus refrigerator factory Snaigė has declared bankruptcy. Vidmantas Janulevičius, President of the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, attributed this to aggressive Chinese dumping practices and the closure of the Asian market. Meanwhile, online news portal 15min.lt has achieved a historic milestone, surpassing its competitors to become the most read online news portal in Lithuania.
Elsewhere, heritage protection officials are raising alarms that the remains of Lithuanian partisans from the post-war era risk going unrecognized, with their historical battle sites facing destruction. The company Tesonet has also announced the cancellation of its plans to acquire Arena Vilnius. Concerns are also growing over demographic issues, with warnings issued about a critical situation.
