Police evacuate 2,000 residents for Belgrade bomb disposal

The final phase of neutralizing a 350kg World War II aerial bomb began in Belgrade's Palilula district this morning. Minister of Interior Ivica Dačić gave the signal for an operation involving 350 personnel and the evacuation of more than 2,000 residents, some of whom expressed fear that the detonation might take their apartment buildings with it.

The election campaign began with the familiar sight of dozens of buses ferrying supporters to the capital. Aleksandar Vučić opened his bid for the premiership by promising a "government on wheels" with only 12 ministers. Monitoring of the electoral process remains less streamlined: an investigation into one building has found 147 voters registered to a single address.

Elsewhere, a resident of the capital has successfully managed to disconnect himself from the central heating plant, a feat of persistence highlighted as the price of wood pellets reaches 48,000 dinars per ton.
