Ticks have provided the season's most consistent public health challenge, with 8,000 cases of Lyme disease and 380 of encephalitis recorded so far this year. It is a domestic problem that refuses to recede, much like the friction inside the governing coalition.
Agnė Širinskienė, a prominent MP, has publicly admitted her disappointment with the coalition's internal mechanics. Her frustration is matched by trade unions, who expressed surprise at a minister’s sudden pledge to find €245 million for education. In previous discussions, the government had indicated a different commitment; the unions are now waiting to see if the money exists or if the pledge holds.
Industrial growth remains uneven as 17% of EU-funded factory projects have collapsed before ground was even broken. While manufacturing leaders discuss the promise of artificial intelligence and new facilities, the state must account for rising debt and a multi-billion euro transport tender in Vilnius that is currently being scrutinized for potential links to Belarus.
