The Assembly ended a prolonged political deadlock early in the morning, electing Justina Shiroka-Pula as president. The vote followed a marathon session of negotiations intended to avoid snap parliamentary elections after a long and difficult political process.
The session also saw deputies approve amendments to the Special Court law. However, the timing of the vote—conducted after a long night—has already prompted questions regarding the procedure. Lawyer Arianit Koci went to the Assembly as the political dynamics and potential compromises surrounding the election were finalized.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti welcomed the result, noting that the country finally has new institutions. He also used the occasion to promise his government would work toward the success of former KLA leaders currently appealing their cases.
