Lithuania has deployed approximately 100 soldiers to its border with Kaliningrad as a preventative measure. Interior Minister Martynas Katerynas stated that this decision was made after evaluating intelligence, noting that border guard capabilities alone are insufficient. This comes alongside a separate nighttime operation by border guards in Vilnius, which involved shots being fired and damage to a police car during a contraband bust.
In political developments, the Central Electoral Commission formally revoked the parliamentary mandate of former Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė, following her earlier resignation. This action facilitates the return of Kęstutis Masiulis to the Seimas, where he has begun to discuss his political outlook. Meanwhile, the opposition has called for Minister of Finance Taurimas Valys to appear before the Seimas.
Economically, Lithuanian consumers are increasingly shopping in Poland for pre-All Saints' Day deals due to lower prices on certain goods. This trend emerges as Lithuania's GDP forecast has been reduced to 2.9% with an anticipated inflation rate of 5.3%, despite retail sector leaders expressing confidence in the country's economic growth. Furthermore, Lithuania, through Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė, plans to propose an EU ban on the transit of Russian food grains.
