Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist has announced a decision following discussions with the Speaker regarding the formation of the next government. This development comes as post-election coalition talks continue, with the left-leaning opposition having secured a narrow parliamentary majority in the September 2026 general election. Ulf Kristersson, leader of the Moderate Party, currently serves as Prime Minister in a caretaker capacity.
In other domestic news, a Sweden Democrats official, previously convicted of a crime, has taken a new role in a parliamentary committee. Separately, police are facing scrutiny over an operation against human trafficking, with allegations that officers locked up women they were supposed to protect, leading one woman to state she would rather live on the street.
Meanwhile, the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) has issued double weather warnings, forecasting up to 100 millimeters of precipitation in the form of heavy snow and rain.
