Police have detained three students following reports of a grave sexual offense at Sigtuna School. The incident is not isolated; investigators are looking into claims of beatings, 'fecal attacks' and out-of-control hazing across several of the country's most exclusive boarding schools. The director of the Sigtuna institution expressed anger and sadness as the investigation into the reports continues.
The state's authority is being tested in more public arenas too. Police are attempting to regain control of football stands after film footage showed officers being forced out of fan sections by supporters. In Segeltorp-Huddinge, one person was arrested after a shooting at a house where children were present.
In more tranquil developments, Swedish table tennis player Linda Möregårdh was eliminated from a European Championship warm-up event after a performance described as powerless. On the roads, military planners are reviewing transport links in the north; the proximity to Russian territory has led one colonel to warn that infrastructure must be ready for both NATO reinforcements and potential refugee flows.
