A young Member of the Chamber of Deputies, Anežka Nedomová of the Mayors and Independents (STAN) party, has disrupted a near-finalized coalition agreement in Pardubice, effectively blocking a deal with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš's ANO movement and potentially ending their 12-year local leadership. This comes as Andrej Babiš is reportedly displeased with ANO leaders following recent election results, with models predicting further setbacks for the party in senatorial elections.
Meanwhile, new questions have arisen concerning President Petr Pavel's recent change of stance on elections and alleged payments for a private jet used during his campaign. In other domestic news, a sponsor of motorists is reportedly constructing properties illegally on land owned by his son, who holds a position overseeing aviation, raising conflict of interest concerns.
The country also saw a racist attack in Prague where a man assaulted a woman and her daughter over skin color, prompting police to release a sketch of the suspect. Economically, inflation rose to 2.5 percent in September. Additionally, reports highlight a significant issue with hundreds of thousands of unexcused school absences, and concerns that courts are granting child custody to abusive parents due to a removed legal safeguard.
