Sacked official accuses interior minister of demanding illegal acts

The dismissed secretary-general of the Ministry of Internal Administration has accused his minister of pressuring him to commit illegalities. The ministry rejected the claim, citing a breakdown of trust and alleging the official attempted to damage the national emergency communication system; it has already appointed a replacement.

The PSD leader, Luís Montenegro, has advised his predecessor Pedro Passos Coelho to "wait seated" after the former leader hinted at a political return. The Chega party has offered to form a government with a Passos Coelho-led PSD, provided its own leader, André Ventura, is the one who gets to be premier.

The IMF has challenged the government’s 2027 forecasts, predicting lower growth and higher inflation than the official budget outlook. Meanwhile, the head of a bankrupt fertility clinic has pledged to return €250,000 to patients, a gesture slightly undermined by the fact that the patients are owed €425,000 for treatments they never received.
