Chisinau is celebrating its annual City Day today, October 14, with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu extending congratulatory messages to residents and emphasizing the capital's role as Moldova's economic engine. A full program of events is underway in the Great National Assembly Square.
In other key developments, Moldova has made significant strides in its European Union accession efforts, officially opening negotiations for Clusters 2 and 3 and an additional 17 chapters. European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos suggested that accession negotiations could potentially be finalized by 2028. Domestically, police specialists successfully deactivated the explosive payload of a drone found in a forest near Geamăna village in the Anenii Noi district.
Furthermore, the Venice Commission has recommended that Moldova revise its draft laws concerning the status and ethical conduct of parliamentary deputies to prevent their misuse as instruments of pressure, also calling for the protection of the political opposition. An analysis has also raised questions about the presence of imported produce on Moldovan shelves despite local production, examining the implications of closer EU integration on the domestic market.
