Widespread protests against the rising cost of living erupted into violent clashes across Italy today, notably in Milan, Turin, and Bologna. Demonstrators used Molotov cocktails, smashed windows, and attacked police, leading to approximately 60 arrests in Milan alone, with many individuals involved being minors.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that any hesitation regarding the violence amounts to justification, while the Democratic Party (PD) condemned the acts. Concerns are also rising about potential disruptive protests on October 30th, with some linking the unrest to a 'French system' phenomenon.
Separately, the CGIL labor union has announced a general strike scheduled for November 20.
