Six officials detained in food safety corruption sweep

A systemic corruption scheme at the Giurgiulești border checkpoint has ended with the post head, five inspectors, and a business agent in custody. More than 20 searches at the food safety office uncovered the arrangement, which according to reports involved food safety inspectors and an economic agent.

The ruling Party of Action and Solidarity has reportedly abandoned its efforts to lead Gagauzia, according to a recent report. The withdrawal leaves a vacuum in the local administration, though it remains to be seen which political force will fill the power gap that PAS has left behind.

Reports of drone activity near the border have seen fragments explode in a field in Dondușeni, while another drone was recovered from a resident's yard in Otaci. Between falling munitions and a warning from farmers that a change to VAT rules could lead to new protests, the rural peace is currently in short supply.
