An investigation is underway into Garda-issued kit safety after two shootings, with questions arising about prior knowledge by Garda Headquarters regarding holster defects that may have contributed to the incidents. This comes as Micheál Martin, the current Taoiseach, continues to lead the coalition government of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, supported by independent TDs, with Catherine Connolly serving as President.
In other significant domestic news, the government has announced it will cease buying turnkey homes for social housing, marking a shift in its housing strategy. Separately, Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary is facing calls to enhance food safety for school meals following the discovery of rodent droppings at a provider's site.
New concerns also include a Dublin rental scam involving fake listings on Daft.ie and the disturbing revelation that a 14-year-old girl is being sexually exploited due to the unavailability of a special care place. Furthermore, four individuals have been arrested after viable pipe bombs were found in Tallaght, and Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Jim O'Callaghan is set to address the Oireachtas on how striking solicitors are deliberately impacting rape cases.
