Parents of protesters have come forward with serious allegations of police brutality, claiming that officers are shooting demonstrators in the head. These accusations emerge as educators have joined the widespread student protests, marching today in support of the students' demands. The ongoing demonstrations have been marked by clashes and accusations of excessive force by authorities.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, the current head of government, has reiterated his call for dialogue with the protesting students. However, he also issued a strong warning to those he accused of taking the capital hostage through 'ANTIFA terror,' stating they would face consequences for damaging public and private property. Rama also held a meeting with ministers and political leaders of the ruling Socialist Party.
In a separate political development, the Socialist Party has formally requested the expulsion of 20 Democratic Party Members of Parliament following recent clashes within the assembly. The Ethics Secretariat is scheduled to meet today to address this demand, adding to the heightened political tensions in the country.
