A significant new report highlights that current and former partners are the most frequent perpetrators in femicide cases, with many women killed in their own homes since 1970. This finding underscores a critical societal issue, drawing attention to domestic violence and its fatal consequences.
In economic news, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced 'Malta Miegħek' as the theme for the upcoming budget, while Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana indicated that difficult financial decisions might be necessary, suggesting the government cannot endlessly provide financial aid. Prime Minister Abela also addressed concerns regarding short-term rentals, stating they must respect residents' quality of life.
Other developments include the selection of Beppe Caruana to represent Malta at Junior Eurovision 2026, and a claim by Evarist Bartolo that French President Macron previously threatened Malta over its refusal to join a naval blockade of Libya. Concerns have also been raised that allocated funds may be insufficient to protect the Maltese honey bee.
