Slovakia's regional and municipal elections concluded with most incumbent governors keeping their seats, leading Prime Minister Robert Fico to declare that the country's political map has not moved. Despite this, analysts have questioned whether the results represent a defeat for the government after several of Fico's electoral goals went unfulfilled.
The results provided a series of individual setbacks for the ruling Smer party, including a defeat for Transport Minister Jozef Ráž in his bid for the Bratislava mayoralty. In Prešov, the commentary highlighted that while both Milan Majerský and Milan Mazurek won their respective races, Smer suffered a loss.
While the status quo held in the governor's mansions, local voters proved more restless in the cities. Seven municipal districts in Košice are preparing for new leadership after voters unseated their mayors, and in Kežmarok, the incumbent lost by just 82 votes.
