Energy minister halts appointments at state power firm

Minister Admir Šahmanović has blocked the election of three deputy directors at the state energy utility, EPCG. The appointments are waiting on a Ministry of Finance opinion that has yet to arrive, an intervention in state-enterprise governance that suggests the treasury is not yet ready to sign off on the picks.

Public sector discipline is having a busy week. The director of the state broadcaster, RTCG, has filed an ethics complaint against a journalist over their public statements, while the national Clinical Center has opened disciplinary proceedings against a group of doctors. The medics’ offense was allegedly taking a cruise, a trip flagged to the hospital by the anti-corruption agency.

A tragedy in Nikšić has seen an autopsy ordered for a young boy killed in an accident involving a work machine. Elsewhere, the anti-corruption agency met with the French ambassador to discuss its expanding jurisdiction, while environmental analysts noted that despite the rhetoric, the country still lacks a genuine green party.
