Prime Minister's claims on foreign wages face challenge from data

Prime Minister Robert Abela recently suggested that most non-EU workers are not poorly paid. Official data suggests otherwise: over a third of such workers earn ‐12,000 or less, and three-quarters earn no more than ‐20,000. Civil society groups and the Cooperative Federation are now asking the government to reconsider its budget measures on foreign labor.

The eighth day of the Lassane Cisse murder trial heard that the accused, a former soldier, provided conflicting accounts to police. Separately, the Justice Minister reacted to a court verdict involving Yorgen Fenech by noting that justice does not mean doing whatever one desires.

The national IT agency opened its doors to show the 'war room' where staff monitor and repel cyberattacks. In more domestic figures, the government confirmed that 222 children have been adopted by Maltese parents since 2015.
