Prime Minister Robert Abela personally announced that a freezing order against the mayor of Paola has been withdrawn, a rare piece of good news for the local official. Meanwhile, the prosecution continued its closing address in the trial concerning the murder of Lassane Cisse.
Budget 2027 remains the primary concern for the cabinet. Finance Minister Clyde Caruana spent the day clarifying that non-EU workers are not about to vanish, even if new measures make hiring them more difficult. The government's line is that making foreign labor more expensive is not a penalty, but rather an incentive for businesses to finally invest in automation.
In between legal and economic updates, the Prime Minister found time to inaugurate a €6 million Buddha-Bar. If the economy cannot be automated, it can at least be entertained.
