The annual release of school rankings has confirmed a familiar geography of achievement. Private institutions in the North continue to lead secondary education results, while the capital presents a different picture: Lisbon now has only one public school among the country's top 100. At the 9th-grade level, the trend is downward, with fewer schools improving their average scores than last year.
The political climate is similarly cooling. Former minister Poiares Maduro warned that the space for cross-party dialogue is narrowing, suggesting that the current Minister of Home Affairs, Luís Neves, should admit he no longer has the standing to remain in his post.
The emergency medical service, INEM, reportedly delayed aid to protesters on the grounds of security concerns. In Lisbon, Benfica secured a 4-1 victory, proving that while the schools may be struggling, the football remains reliably productive.
