A second round of voting is underway to decide whether the presidency goes to Iliana Iotova or Andrey Gyurov. Turnout has started lower than in the first round, though analysts at Alpha Research suggest the narrow gap between the candidates could still draw people out. Andrey Gyurov has framed the choice as one between the country's past and its future.
The Interior Ministry has received 415 reports of election violations, including the usual allegations of vote buying and a scattering of technical failures with voting machines. While the ministry counts reports, candidates have spent the morning casting their own ballots and framing the election as a choice for a stable and European future.
Away from the polling stations, the judiciary is facing its own questions. Candidates for the Supreme Judicial Council have been asked to account for wiretapping allegations and the conduct of Borislav Sarafov, while prosecutors face claims that they have shown little appetite for investigating corruption in the state highways project.
