The government will issue a navtex on Friday to resume seabed research for a subsea energy cable outside territorial waters near Kasos. The move follows an informal briefing and reflects long-standing sensitivities over maritime recognition, with Turkey already requesting official information on the project connecting Greece and Cyprus.
Domestic politics is currently occupied with a set of overlapping disputes. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his predecessor Alexis Tsipras are arguing over corruption and the penal code, while the PASOK leader has criticized the government's approach to the 'calm waters' policy and the energy cable. Even with the next election years away, the Prime Minister has already locked in 11 new candidates for 2027.
Beyond the capital, 11 of the 12 people arrested for a far-right attack in Patras have been released. In Athens, the University metro station was closed for a nationwide protest, while several municipalities are threatening to shut their doors entirely in a dispute over a lack of central funding.
