A court has ordered Grigeo Klaipėda to pay €50m for polluting the Curonian Spit, a fine accompanied by a €120,000 personal penalty for G. Pangonis. The ruling ends a long-running environmental case as the Bank of Lithuania suggests the country could face an excessive deficit procedure.
Economist Irena Segalovičienė noted that the recent tax reform was a missed opportunity to address that deficit. Meanwhile, political tensions remain high as the Social Democrats air grievances against the Prime Minister. Vilija Vėsaitė has indicated she has several points to address to both her political partners and the government head.
Separate from the political disputes, the nation marked the 100th birthday of former President Valdas Adamkus with a culminating event described as something never seen before. In the capital, residents were also recently alarmed by the sound of gunshots at night, the cause of which has since been clarified.
