Russia launched 172 drones and missiles at 34 locations, with 36 ballistic missiles aimed specifically at the capital. The bombardment targeted energy infrastructure and the substations connecting Kyiv to two nuclear power plants. In the northern district, a missile damaged a five-story building and the Northern Bridge; five people were injured, including a child, and a crater by a residential block reportedly filled with boiling water.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia is preparing new strikes on bridges and civilian infrastructure, while reports suggest these threats against ports and power plants are a strategy to force territorial concessions. For now, the effect is more local: damage to an energy facility in the Zhytomyr region disrupted Kyiv’s water supply, while a separate blackout has left a major regional center entirely without power.
The domestic security service, the SBU, is also facing internal scrutiny after top official General Serhiy Duk was taken into custody. Investigators are reportedly looking into claims he may have collaborated with a drug cartel. Separately, intelligence officials say they have identified seven Russian soldiers responsible for a strike on an underground shelter in Komyshuvakha that killed 55 people.
