Europe Uncovers Terror Plot, Danube Shifts, New Scandals Erupt

Europe confronts rising challenges today. Denmark foiled a teen terror plot, Norway faces a major cyberattack, and Sweden reports increased Russian threats. The Danube crisis causes varied impacts: Hungary's nuclear plant avoided shutdown, Romania cleared a critical rock, but Serbia's refinery halted operations due to low water. Meanwhile, new internal investigations are underway in France, Poland, and Portugal. Wildfires and extreme heat also continue to intensify.

Security concerns have escalated sharply across Europe. Denmark is reeling from the discovery of a terror plot by teenagers targeting a school, leading to multiple detentions and widespread alarm. Concurrently, Norway has been hit by a significant data attack, impacting national infrastructure, while Sweden's Supreme Commander has urged citizens to prepare for a potential Russian attack, confirmed by Swedish fighter jets intercepting Russian bomber planes. In Ukraine, new and alarming Russian tactics have emerged, including reported 'honey traps' to assassinate military personnel and a focus on targeting water supplies and critical infrastructure, as key leadership appointments were made in defense and intelligence.

The ongoing Danube crisis presents a mixed picture today. In a significant reversal, Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant narrowly avoided a full shutdown as river water levels began to rise. This comes as Romania successfully detonated and cleared a critical rock in the Danube, leading to a slight increase in water levels near its Cernavodă nuclear plant. However, Serbia's Pančevo Refinery has ceased operations due to the Danube reaching a new historic low, and Moldovan farmers are reporting a 'new catastrophe' as severely low river levels impact agriculture.

Across Europe, heatwaves and wildfires continue to intensify, prompting red alerts and crisis responses. Austria, Croatia, Slovakia, and Slovenia are all bracing for record-breaking temperatures, with emergency calls surging due to heat-related issues. Major wildfires are ravaging parts of Wales, declared a 'significant incident,' and expanding in Limburg, Netherlands. New blazes are also being battled in Valpaços, Portugal, and northern Luxembourg. In Greece, authorities have made arrests in connection with the ongoing wildfires, which continue to demand extensive firefighting efforts. The fallout from the Ceuta migration crisis continues to generate internal rifts within the Spanish government, with contradictions over intelligence warnings and a high-level clash between ministries, as Spain plans to reproach EU partners for their 'selfish' attitude.

New political and corruption probes are unfolding across the continent. France has launched investigations into multiple suicides and attempted suicides within the Prime Minister's services, allegedly due to moral harassment, and into alleged surveillance of pro-Palestinian students at Sciences Po Paris. Poland's Warsaw hospital scandal deepened with allegations of a deputy health minister's involvement and reports of deceased patients' bodies decomposing in cold storage. The European Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into alleged irregularities in Portuguese Judicial Police public works contracts. Slovakia's intelligence service is under fire after a French magazine claimed it is Europe's worst, and its Agriculture Minister faces scrutiny for substantial spending on a science fiction exhibition. In Albania, protests have erupted over proposed municipal mergers…
