Bulgaria is grappling with economic concerns as its budget deficit reached 2.4% of GDP by August, largely due to projects under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Concurrently, the number of individuals hitting the maximum pension ceiling has climbed to nearly 16,000, raising questions about the sustainability of the pension system.
The presidential election continues to be a central topic, with candidate Andrey Gyurov expressing confidence in attracting support from a broader voter base, including those from GERB and Progressive Bulgaria. Further developments include speculation from Atanas Atanasov, a Member of the Haskovo City Council, that the GERB party might opt not to field its own presidential candidate.
In other domestic news, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev has replaced the management of Holding BDZ, indicating a shake-up in the state railway sector. The Education Committee's decision to cut student stipends, despite a Supreme Administrative Court ruling, has also drawn attention.
