President Nicușor Dan has named Luca Niculescu, a diplomat and former journalist, as Prime Minister-designate. The nomination leaves the main parties in a familiar state of public hesitation: the Social Democrats are convening to decide their stance, while the National Liberals are attaching conditions to their support. The math of a parliamentary majority remains, for now, a matter of political improvisation.
The legal troubles of Călin Georgescu continue as the detained politician was released temporarily for a forensic audit of his electronics, while his wife was summoned for questioning regarding a fraud case involving over 1.1 million euros. Even the church has found itself involved; the Orthodox Episcopacy sanctioned an abbess and a priest in Oradea for greeting Georgescu as the "elected president" during a recent visit.
The economic outlook remains cautious as analysts suggest the leu could slide to 5.50 against the euro by 2027. This follows a trend in the public sector where some 7,800 school principal and vice-principal positions remain vacant. In more commercial corners, Adobe has promoted two new vice presidents in Bucharest and a German manufacturer is spending 25m euros on a new semi-trailer plant.
